1. Is a classified listing free?


A. Yes for all user types the first 30 days of listing your item is free and you can republish once more. There are extra paid features for both private individuals and companies that allow you to extend (republish) your listing for more time or move it to the top of the listings. You are allowed to list five separate items for free and after that you must pay for your extra basic listings. Companies who subscribe to our Company Pro feature can list unlimited items for a defined period of time (see faq #4 for more details).

2. Do I have to register an account to publish a basic listing?


A. All users do not have to register to publish a basic listing, however if you want to gain access to other features not available to un-registered users, it is in your best interest to do so.

3. How do I register an account?


A. By clicking on the "register for a free account" link at the top of the website on every page. Fill in as much of the registration form text fields as you can, the more information, the better chances that your potential buyer will contact you.  Ensure that you choose "Private Individual" from the User Type dropdown menu.  Make sure to update your profile once you log in.

4. How do I register if I am a business or commercial vendor?


A. Click on the "register for a free account" link in the top right corner of our website and when prompted, choose "Company" from the User Type drop down menu and fill out the rest of the form. You will be given special priviledges and features that are not available to you if you don't register. Companies also get access to upgrade to a Pro Account where they can have access to features not available to other users. Make sure to update your profile once you log in.

 

 

5. How much for a regular user type or a company or commercial vendor to upgrade their listing?


A. A premium listing for all users is $7 for 14 days. A premium plus listing for all users is $10 for 21 days and there are credit packages available for both users. Credit packages once purchased will be placed inside your Wallet and you will be able to use them towards your listings without having to login to PayPal again to pay.  Private individuals and companies also have access to other paid features if they register for free.


6. Where do I find the option to upgrade to a premium listing?


A. Once you register an account with us you will see the features in your dashboard by hovering over the "My Account" link in the top navigation bar of the site.

7. Where do I find the option to purchase a credit package?

8. What types of payment do you accept?


A. Presently we only accept PayPal for payments. However, PayPal will allow you to pay with your credit card and/or debit card depending on what type of free account you have with them.

9. Do I have to put in my phone number and email addess?


A. Your email address is mandatory, your phone number isn't.

10. Why do I see Sportsman Fishing Adventures Ltd during my PayPal transaction when I purchase an upgrade to my listing?


A. Sportsman Fishing Adventures Ltd. is the parent company of Van Isle Classifieds.

11. Why do I have to solve the anti spam re-captcha and why is it so hard to read?

A. Because of the unending attempts by automated bots and drones (hired spammers) to infiltrate our site, we have chosen to use the re-captcha script to help mitigate these morons.  It has to be hard to read so the spammers and bots cannot use ocr software to read the code.  If you cannot read the letters/numbers just click the refresh button until you can.  Sorry for the inconvenience, but it is a necessity for security reasons.

12. Why is my activation email not arriving in my inbox?

A. This is most likely due to your spam filter on the email program you are using. Check your spam box (this is the main reason in 90% of all activation emails not being received) and whitelist our email addess to make sure nothing else goes missing. ;)

If an email was incorrectly marked as spam, follow the steps below to remove it from Spam.

  1. Open Gmail.
  2. On the left, click Spam. If you don't see Spam, click More. (see images below)
  3. Open the email.
  4. At the top of the page, click Not spam. (see image below)
  5. To stop a message from being sent to Spam in the future, you can:
  6. Add the sender to your Contacts (see image below)
  7. Filter these messages

Also make sure you click the link that says"Ignore, I trust this message" in the flash message that appears for the first time in your inbox.

If you're using gmail make sure to check the Social or Promotions folders and move any emails that you want whitelisted into your Primary folder and you won't have issues again.

If you are using Hotmail or Outlook, make sure you check your "junk email folder" and open the message there.  While open click the link in the message that says "This message was identified as spam. We'll delete it after 10 days. It is not spam" This will move it to your inbox.  You can also click the "down arrow" in your "reply" box and then click the "Mark as not junk" link to add it to your inbox. (see images below)

If you want to whitelist our email address in Hotmail or Outlook, than you click the cog wheel icon in the top right corner of your window.  Than choose the options link and view the left pane for more options to choose. Choose "Safe Sender" and add "accounts at vanisleclassifieds dot com" to the text box provided. Click the "plus" icon and than click "save". We are now whitelisted and you should receive all email correspondence from us. (see images below)

And last but not least for those of you who use Yahoo as your mail provider here is how you check your spam folder. Open the email from your spam folder and click the "not spam" link at the top and it will be placed in your inbox.  To whitelist our email address you will click on the options cog in the top right corner and click on settings from the drop down box. Inside settings you will click on filters and a window will open where you will click on add and another window will open where you will create a filter with our email address and click save. Than click save again. Our email address will now be whitelisted and you should receive all correspondence from us in your inbox.

13. Why doesn't my listing show up?

A. Maybe your listing violates our Terms of Use or maybe you've violated the Terms of Use in the past and you've been blocked from using our site or maybe its on the second page.

14. How can I save a listing so I can find it later?

A. You can use your browser's bookmarking (add to favorites) system. First, make sure you have clicked down to the listing (i.e. clicked its title). That page has a URL unique to that listing. Then, bookmark that page.

15. Can I renew my listing once it has expired?

A. Yes listings can be republished for a fee and you will be sent an email offering you that option 3 days before expiry. If you are a registered user the republish link will be available for 5 days in your dashboard before your expiration date. Please note, pet listings may not be republished. If your pet has not been re-homed within 30 days, please post a new listing and allow up to 48 hours for your pet listing to be reviewed and displayed.

16. Are there restrictions to what I can list on Van Isle Classifieds?

17. Can I change my username, password and email address?

A. Yes there are links to do this inside your free registered account.

18. I've forgotten my password. How do I recover it?

A. You will see a link at the bottom of the login page to reset your password. Click on "Forgot Password" and follow the prompts. You will need to know the email address you registered with to complete this request.

19. I can't seem to Login to my account.

A. If you have forgotten your password, use the forgot password tool and we will send you your instructions on how to reset your password.
or Make sure that you have clicked on your verification email after you have created your free account so that your account is activated. If you are still having trouble use our contact form and send us the details of what you have tried to login and we'll get you logged in.
